Spreading the Word on bread!
It started with a loaf of bread and a view of the ocean....
Peter had a dream in Frankfurt, Germany 18 years ago. That dream would lead him thousands of miles away -- to Cape Town, South Africa.
“At the end of 2008, I dreamed I was in a truck on a long journey,” he said. “I saw a beach, so I stopped the truck to relax. I saw the beautiful ocean, and heard a little boy say, ‘That is South Africa, sir. That is South Africa!’”
For 18 years, Peter struggled to make ends meet, but always kept this vision in mind -- God wanted him to travel to South Africa on outreach. He decided to get creative. He took one loaf of bread and turned it into a venue for spreading God’s word.
Kaka's Testimony
JUST LIKE A PRAYER … Kaka looks to the heavens after winning the Champions League with Milan.
KAKA may be the man to fire Manchester City to glory but it will be nothing compared to the impact he has already had on millions of people. The AC Milan star has given the green light to a staggering £243million switch to Eastlands.
But the Brazilian says football plays second fiddle in a life which has been devoted to Christianity. Just weeks ago he became involved with the Billy Graham organisation in a TV campaign which had an astonishing effect in his homeland. It was nationally reported that
- Hundreds of people were freed from demonic possession.
- Hardened criminals turned to Christianity in their thousands. Many more were cured of booze and drug addictions. A former voodoo princess turned to Christ.
As the campaign launched, Kaka told millions: “I truly cannot imagine my life without Christ. “Everything I have accomplished, everything I have done in my life was because God has a plan and purpose for my life. “The Bible says He will do more than we ever thought or imagined, and this is truly how it has been. “If God wasn’t in my life, then my life certainly would not be like this.” The Brazilian’s faith in God has been broadcast across the world via an iconic picture of him on his knees celebrating a goal and showing a T-shirt which proclaims, ‘I belong to Jesus. ’
"Let Go & Let God"
“Let go & let God!” (or, “what I’m learning through the World Cup”)
I still remember when we started our initial planning for our projects for the World Cup Soccer and I nearly got an anxiety attack... Will we be able to handle everything?!.. Will we have enough support? Are we going to have enough volunteers to help? What if?... And I tried my best to regulate and control everything in the smallest possible detail. But you know what? I forgot ONE very important thing. I forgot what a GREAT and WONDERFUL God we serve! He is THE ONE who holds everything in his hand, not me.
Today is the 20th day of the World Cup Soccer. At Towers of Hope we have already screened 48 worldcup matches for the homeless and destitute (still 8 matches to go), served hundreds of warm meals, and handed out countless blankets and warm jackets / jerseys. And the feedback that has been steadily coming in from the destitute as well as our volunteers, is one of gratitude, excitement, and a deep sense of God who is at work here. My anxiety was unwarrented; God Himself sustains his work (cf Ps 90:17).
It has thus become a wonderful liberating experience for me to come to Towers of Hope and suddenly find myself in the midst of a hive of activity and all kinds of ongoing ministry - here there is a group of people preparing food; there a couple of volunteers is occupied in guiding a few homeless people in the the art of some or other craft; outside a team is preparing to go out on street evangelism, while some streetkids is playing around with a soccerball; and through it all supporters and volunteers are dropping off and taking away food, blankets and clothing. And I?... I’m just so glad that I’m not in control and that the Lord God is teaching me very practically to “let go & let God!”. Lord, to You all the honour and glory!

Does believing in Jesus make a difference?
Believing in Jesus has brought a total change to my life. Before I knew Jesus I did not have a disciplined life. I had low self-esteem. I did not have confidence in the things that I did day by day. Today I want to walk with the Lord and have a purpose for my life. That gives me the discipline to persevere towards my goals.

There is a passage in Psalm 1 that says:
Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season.
I think this verse reflects my life, because everything has happened for me at the right moment.
I’ve also known the presence of the Lord, and his guidance in keeping me from mocking God.
Great start in Diepsloot!
Bryanston and Diepsloot Methodist Churches have partnered in hosting a month long outreach in Diepsloot. A huge screen was erected to enable Viewing of all the Soccer World Cup matches!
About 4000 people pitched up to the first big screening in Diepsloot on Friday (11 June) with over 50% coming forward for an alter call!!!!!
