JOY BRACELET
The beautiful bracelets were designed to
remind us that we should all aspire to live
according to the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians
5:22) every day.
A great idea is to get creative and make your own bracelets. Adopt this as a 201
0 project for your church or community. Purchase the beads and print the cards. Invite people to get involved in making bracelets. This can be a good opportunity to bring along those “not-yet-Christians” – you’ll be amazed at the conversations that God can bring about around the fruit of the Spirit.

What is our Ultimate Goal?

“What is our Ultimate Goal?” That is a question I’ve been asking myself.
Is it to build up a Nation that is United, (which is a significant need given the challenges we face as a society)? Is that our Ultimate Goal? Methinks not.
Is it to ensure that this soccer extravaganza is the most successful one ever? Many within and without our borders believe that to be an impossibility. The economic and social spin-offs of SA hosting a successful 2010 World Cup TM would be hugely beneficial to our society and our continent. Would that be our Ultimate Goal? Maybe not.
Would our Ultimate Goal be to speak into the many Social Injustices in our society and for us, as the Church, to be a positive change agent? While I am convinced that these issues are extremely close to the heart of our Father and we, the Church, share responsibility and so desperately need to “get stuck in”. Is this our Ultimate Goal? I think not.
Would our Ultimate Goal be to create platforms to market ourselves, our evangelical products and brands because this opportunity only knocks once? Could it be to capitalise on the economic benefits of this rising tide, after all many churches and Christian organisations struggle to make ends meet at the best of times. I sincerely hope not.
While these things are essential, some even crucial, it still leaves me with that question: “What is our Ultimate Goal”? Somebody put it quite simply – that “as people come looking for an extraordinary experience, that they would find Jesus”…

SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST A SCOUT MOTTO

100-DAYS-TO-KICKOFF!!! That’s what the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup TM countdown clock is screaming this morning. A delegation of officials and journalists have been running around the countryside making sure everything is prepared and ready for their main event of the year - And South Africa is prepared – mostly. Could we pull it off tomorrow? Hmm, maybe not. Will we be prepared come 100 days? Yes methinks…
But what does to “prepare” mean? According to the Collins English Dictionary, it means:
- to make ready in advance for some use, event or action
- to put together using parts or ingredients
- to equip or outfit as for an expedition
In 100 days, our world will look different, sound different, feel different, smell different, taste different. Business is gearing up for bumper turnover - Organised crime has been getting ready for some time now - Entertainment hubs are setting up for extravaganzas - The Church is (insert your church’s preparations here)…
I recently came across two rather intriguing passages in Scripture, dealing with the verb “to prepare”. The first is in Ephesians 4 which to me describes what Unity among Christ Followers looks and feels like. Then, nestled in the middle of the chapter, we find these treasures:
“12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that, the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ”
The second is in Luke 1, referring to John the Baptiser. The latter part of verse 17 reads:
“… to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
So, let’s not be unprepared but instead make the most of these opportunities to make Jesus proud.

Little TUG boats gets big things going

The sea. It attracts. Man has always been drawn to it. It makes him feel – alive! Remember that Old Spice ad…
The other day, Tracy & I were on one of those Sunset Cruises from the V & A Waterfront in Cape Town to Clifton Beach. We were greeted by this awesome sight, (not referring to the sun setting over Table Mountain, though that is supremely awesome). What unfolded before us was a majestic floating Hotel leaving port. The sheer size and dimensions of the vessel absolutely arrested the skyline. It was clear to see that Happiness was onboard by the effervescence of the passengers. (Maybe that’s why it’s a pleasure cruise…) Most of those passengers however may not have been aware of the tiny boats that were manoeuvring this floating Palace into action.
