TUG Prayer Letter of 8 July 2010

Dear Prayer  Friends,

TUG shares these prayer requests, for our country and people, with Jerico Walls. Let us pray together on the following:

A Call for Christians to pray for post-Soccer World Cup South Africa

After all the excitement over the nations visiting South Africa, the drama, the emotional seesaw of winning and losing and the euphoria of being the showpiece of the world, the citizens of South Africa will return to a normal life with normal challenges.

We are still facing unemployment, poverty, rising living expenses, AIDS, racial tension and discrimination, corruption, violence crime, etc. We cannot afford for one moment to let our shields of faith down. The enemy will attack precisely at such a time as this - the end of a major emotional and civic event. Let us not abandon our watch, let us press in to seek God’s face and to plead for His favour and mercy over our nation.

Here are some prayer pointers to help you pray during the next several weeks.

1.     Thank God for His protection over South Africa during the past six weeks. Thank Him for not allowing any major bloodshed or unrest during the time that the nations visited South Africa and also no terrorist attacks. Give Him the glory and the honour for allowing and trusting South Africa with people from many different nations. Give Him the honour for allowing South Africa to host such a major event. Honour Him by thanking Him (Ps 50:23). Especially thank Him that He trusted South Africa with the nations. Pray that South Africans will live up to this trust and take responsibility for other nations to care for them, to protect them and to allow them to stay amongst us. Thank Him for a police force that was operating very successfully during the world cup.

2.     Ask the Holy Spirit to protect the soul (mind, emotions) of South Africans from post-soccer depression. Pray for peace in the hearts of all South Africans and citizens of other nations staying with us in South Africa. Pray for the God of peace to rule in our hearts and minds and to protect us from any attack that the enemy may unleash through the stirring of racial hatred, thoughts and acts of revenge and bloodshed, and through inciting strikes, riots and destructive behaviour, and unrealistic demands. Pray that no unwise decisions will be made by the government because of fear or pressure groups and trade unions.

3.     Resist the work of the Evil One in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and pray that any xenophobic attacks, violence, bloodshed, murders and anarchy will be thwarted.

4.     Pray that God will not allow the plans of the enemy to destabilize South Africa’s social structure, economic stability, political and judicial integrity or defence structures.

5.     Resist any intimidation or urge to submit to a spirit of fear. God has not given us a spirit of fear but He asks us to believe in Him and to trust Him that He has everything under control. We must even trust Him with our lives. We cannot afford to give in to a mindset of doubt, self-preservation or anxiousness. Now is the time to deny ourselves, to follow Jesus and His way of life, whatever the outcome. He said: We are to LOVE our enemies, to WALK another mile,  and to, if necessary, LAY DOWN OUR LIVES for His glory and His honour.

6.     Pray for an outpouring of God’s Spirit on the peoples of South Africa to bring them to an understanding of Who He is and what His plans and purposes for our nation are. Pray that the Church in South Africa will finally understand her role as the instrument of reconciliation (2 Cor.5:18) in this nation, in the continent of Africa and in the nations of the world.

7.     Pray for the president and ministers of the Cabinet, to allow the Holy Spirit to guide and lead them to bring this nation to a place of righteousness and justice (Prov.14:34). Pray for everyone in authority (1 Tim.1:1-2) so that the Word of the Gospel can spread in and through our nation.

8.     Pray for a national genuine spiritual revival in the church and also for effective evangelism of the nation.

9.     Ask God to pour out a spirit of prayer and intercession on the Church.

...He will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth." (Hosea 6:3)

TUG Prayer Letter of 23 June 2010

Dear Partners,

Inspiring Quotes

The value of consistent prayer is not that He will hear us, but that we will hear Him.  ~William McGill

When you pray, rather let your heart be without words than your words without heart.  ~John Bunyan

"To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: 'Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: "God, I thank you that I am not like other men-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get." But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, "God, have mercy on me, a sinner. I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted"'" (Luke 18:9-14).

Our Teams are in need of your faithful prayer support concerning the following:

From the Arts in Action team the requests are that you would agree with them for!

·         Good communication between the creative arts groups and the Arts in Action! leaders ·         Good sleep! ·         Good health (especially ministering at night in the cold) ·         Strength and energy ·         Divine appointments
  • Please pray for them to enjoy this time of adventurous ministry, to be able to have fun, that this experience would not merely be “work” and that they may see and encounter the Lord God Most High.
  • Travelling

Tracy & Eugene will be travelling to Jo’burg, Pretoria, Durban and Port Elizabeth over the next 2 weeks.  Please pray for safety for all their travelling.

Corinne asked that we should please pray for the Keep them safe/ TUG team’s morale.
  • The teams are tired and morale low.
  •  It is cold and raining and thousands of children all over SA are being kept busy and being fed by volunteers. LET US KEEP THEM IN OUR CONSTANT PRAYERS.

 ·         For all the programs, please pray for warmer weather as the children tend to stay home when it is this cold.  We have had much lower numbers than expected

FEEDBACK FROM CHURCHES  1. Ark of God - Mabopane ·         Thank God for this Testimony: After hearing last Saturday that the local programme director had prepared absolutely nothing, they arrived to find an amazing team of young people, who by Wednesday were basically running the programme independently. They are very creative, very excited youth and young adults.  Specific praise to local church members Opa, Anad Ipeleng for their hard work.  .·         Prayer Requests: Please pray that we understand how to deepen our relationship with this church, and how to cultivate a partnership after 2010 to continuing ministering in this area.
  •  Also that their ministry in the coming weeks would bear fruit.

2. Beracah Christian Church - Hammanskraal

  • Thank God for this Testimony: Monday had a significant miscommunication and no volunteers from the local church attended ministry.  After making a trip up there to talk to the pastor, we cleared up the misunderstanding and they have had plenty of help since then.  They are starting to take ownership of the program.
 ·         Prayer requests include: 1. Team unity amongst the OM team.  They are apparently having some internal tensions,   but are actively dealing with them and are still ministering effectively. Let us pray that Satan does not divide this team.

2. Also pray here that the congregation will be stirred by the Holy Spirit with zeal and passion for the Kingdom of God to be established as praise on this earth

3. Temba Baptist - Temba

  • Thank God for this Testimony:  Ministry here has been going well.  Our team seems to be very blessed by the local hospitality and they have a very strong and motivated team of local volunteers.
  • Mama Phyllis (church leader) has started the Boitemogelo Interdenominational Community Development Programme which has combined over a dozen churches from different denominations to minister in Temba.  In the spirit of Acts 2 they are sharing their resources and ministering alongside one another and breaking down many church barriers in the community.

Prayer Requests:  Additionally, pray for us to understand how to partner with them in the future to magnify the work they are already doing.  Many of these churches are working together on this trailer ministry programme.

  • Also please pray for the unity of members in the team.  Some of our brothers from Zambia are shy in assimilating to the group.  Pray that they feel welcome and fulfilled.

 4. Elim Tabernacle - Mau bane

  • Thank God for this Testimony: A wonderful story of evangelism - Chris, Athletes in Action team member from Zambia, was walking around the community with a local church leader to invite people to the day's ministry events.  They saw a woman gardening and stopped to help her.  Soon after, a total of 5 of our team members were cleaning out her garden and saved her hours of work by completing it in about 15 min.  Chris then pulled her aside while the team was finishing up, shared the gospel with her, and she received Christ.  A wonderful testimony to the service of our team.
  • Prayer Requests: Our team leaders have understood from community members that this particular church is rather unwelcoming to those who struggle with sin.  Apparently anyone who struggles with drinking, smoking, drugs, etc, is not welcome because of these struggles.  Please pray for our impact to be a positive one in restoring the reputation of this church, and in reframing the role of this church in the community.

  ·         Also please pray for cultural frustrations between the locals and our Brazilian team members.  The Brazilians   have been giving many gifts to the community without understanding the cultural ramifications such has feeding the tendency to ask for handouts, and giving gifts to wives without giving gifts to the husbands.

5. Miracle Centre Ministries - Brits

  • Testimony: This ministry is thriving.  It is regularly getting 150+ kids even with the cold weather and sometimes going over 300.  Big screen events and soccer are the biggest draw while the Holiday club is a distant third.
  • Prayer requests at this church would include team energy, and understanding about the partnership with the church leaders.  The pastors are very active and very keen to pursue a relationship with Eastside on a long term basis.  They are also asking for a lot of resources which we need to only give after much prayer and using much discretion.

Thanksgiving to God because overall the programmes are great.

Pray for sustained ministry and future partnership.  6.6. Mammethlake Team:
  • Please pray for Joanne (one of the team members) who is stressed and worried about her role/use in the team.
  • They are grateful for many volunteers who are willing to help with the Holiday Club.
 SOCCER TEAMS

 ·         Pray for the Greek World Cup squad.  Each member of the squad was personally handed a Modern Greek Sports New Testament (originally prepared for the 2004 Olympic Games). Plus copy of the evangelistic World Cup 36 page Pocket Guide and some other gift items. Many attempts to give these resources failed until the Greek Naval Attaché mentioned he was a friend of the Greek manager and he agreed to pass the Bibles etc on to the team.  Subsequently we received a fax from the Manager thanking us for our very kind gesture.

  • Please pray that this contact with the Greek team will have significant impact on their lives

PRAISE GOD also and give a moment of thanks for KIDS GAMES and all that it has lead to in at least 170 nations. This season of KG in 2010-2011 is set to be the largest ever.

GOD IS GOOD AND HIS MERCIES ENDURE FOREVER.

Be greatly blessed as you partner with us with these requests, praises and thanksgiving to Him who sits on the Throne.

Prayer Letter of 14 June 2010

14 June 2010

2010 Soccer World Cup Is Here and so is God!
We welcome in Jesus Name 32 nations to play and more than 200 nations to watch.

God is using everything for His glory and His purpose is to reconcile people back to Him.

  • "Every great movement of God can be traced to a kneeling figure."
    D. L. Moody

Dear Prayer Partners:

o        We pray that the churches of our nation will succeed in their endeavour to work together for THE ULTIMATE GOAL of bringing Hope and Change to our country.

  • o        Pray and say aloud: Lord Jesus, help us to use whatever gift we have received to serve the nations by faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms with the sole intent: To proclaim The Lordship of Jesus clearly.
  • o       Pray that through the power of the blood, the words of our testimony as Christians and our willingness to lay down our lives for the truth and the message of salvation through Christ, the gospel will gain victory over all the work of Satan in South Africa (Rev 12:11). Pray for the breaking of the curses of all ungodly rituals, invocations and occult ceremonies. Pray that the plans of the evil one to cause violence, crime, sexual immorality, corruption and greed, will be frustrated and nullified. Pray for the purifying and cleansing power of the blood against all sin.  o        Whenever you hear the sound of the vuvuzela, call for the sound of heaven to be released on the earth. Call for and proclaim the “Voice of God” (Ps 29) over the waters, the mountains, the valleys, the plains, the cities, the stadiums and the nations gathering in South Africa.

We want to partner and come into agreement with the SOUTH AFRICAN SPORTS COALITION (SASCOL) in their prayer :

1. Grant, O Lord, that the celebration of the beautiful game may leave our Country and Continent with a lasting legacy of restored values, godly principles and integrity.

2. Grant, O Lord, that our children and the youth will grow into responsible God-fearing citizens through the life-coaching programs developed for them, by our churches.

3. Grant, O Lord, that the interest in soccer and the shared fun and excitement will draw fathers to their sons and the sons to their fathers in building renewed family units.

4. Grant, O Lord that the Christians of our nation model Christ and the transformed LIFE He brings to all the peoples of the world who do not know Him.

5. Grant, O Lord that our national team become our pride, a rallying point for every South African.

6. Grant, O Lord that during our times of celebration we may be ever mindful of the poor amongst us who have no capacity for the joy we experience and fill us with compassion and the resolve to eradicate poverty.

7. Grant, O Lord that our people will not take advantage of visitors or be taken advantage of by powerful role players in World Soccer. Let all have an attitude to serve others more than ourselves!

8. Grant, O Lord, that reconciliation and restitution will be advanced through soccer initiatives across the divides of our past.

9. Grant, O Lord that from our pristine shores may flow rivers of warmth, hospitality and friendliness, to all who will visit our land.

10.. Grant, O Lord, that the coming together of a nation, drenched in pessimism and despair, may find Hope and Healing in this time of togetherness around a common goal.

11. Grant, O Lord that Bafana Bafana will give our nation a taste of knowing the beauty of success.

12. Grant, O Lord, that the vicious cycle of human, and especially child trafficking be brought to an end, and the sanctity of human life be restored.

13. Grant, O Lord that this world cup will be an open window through which we can look and imagine what we as South African can become.

14. Grant, O Lord the remembrance that we owe this world cup to the children in the streets who for many years played soccer when no other sport was easily accessible to them, that today they bring it to us so we can share it together

15. Grant to us O Lord the humility to receive the gift the world cup is giving us, a gift from the street.

16. Grant, O Lord that during our time of Celebration we will not forget those who are affected and stigmatized by the HIV-AIDS Epidemic.

17. Grant, O Lord that we may retain the picture of success in our minds long after the World Cup is over, long enough for us to want to work towards a successful and prosperous country

Requests are coming in for people of the teams busy with outreaches, big screen events and soccer clinics to children in the communities

  •
    • We pray that the Christian life-coaching programme (Ubabalo) developed for WC2010 will help our children and youth to grow into responsible God-fearing citizens and followers of Jesus. We pray for the 3000 soccer coaches in SA that have been trained to be life coaches, the 60 countries of the world with tens of thousands of coaches in this programme to serve the nations with a lasting legacy of restored values, godly principles and integrity. ·

o      Please pray for the safety of the children and for their hearts to receive the Gospel . Pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit with the power to convict people of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:8). Pray that people will be convicted of the sin of unbelief, of the revelation that Jesus is ruling in heaven at the Father’s right hand, and that Satan is judged and has no more power to keep people in bondage.

o        Can you ask the Lord to send His Holy Spirit to assist and empower all the team members and everyone working with them .

–important issues are also the orientation of teams and other details concerning the training to be finalized.Pray for clarity for the presenters and that God's Spirit will join the hearts and minds of the team members as they meet and determine their roles for the duration of the outreaches..

(SASCOL) World Cup Prayers

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The Peace and Joy of the Lord be with you in every single endeavour for His Glorious Kingdom.

At a recent meeting of The SASCOL National Council held in Gauteng on the 21st April 2010, a unanimous vote of admiration and appreciation was expressed towards “The Ultimate Goal” (TUG) and the “Ubabalo eAfrica” teams, each of whom have accomplished an enormous amount of work over the past few years.
All of their tireless efforts have brought about a satisfactory state of readiness and excitement within the participating churches.
We believe that the numerous programs, workshops, conferences and training sessions have equipped the churches sufficiently to facilitate programs and projects such as Big Screen Events, Community Festivals, Kids Games, Holiday Clubs, Soccer Clinics, Coaching Clinics, Creative Arts Festivals, Diski Dance Lessons, Sports Teams Clinics, Human Trafficking Awareness, HIV-AIDS awareness and most importantly, Prayer Networks.
Details of these activities can be found on the TUG website at: www.theultimategoal.co.za

Our final request to our church leaders across the country and across our continent, is to kindly arrange for your National and International Denominations, Church Families, Leaders Fraternal, etc. to program the attached World Cup Prayers into their services on the three Sundays prior to the World Cup – 23rd & 30th May and 6th June 2010.
Also consider programming a Special Prayer of Thanksgiving on Sunday July 18th 2010 for what we believe will be a successful event.

On behalf of the National Council and the entire TUG and Ubabalo teams, I would like to convey our sincere thanks and appreciation to all for the enormous support and cooperation during this time of working together, as we wish you well with every one of the activities and programs that are being planned for your churches.

Grace and blessings,
