TUG has prepared various documents, and a Power Point slide show, to assist and guide your church to prepare and strategise for TUG Viewing Events. Click here to download the material

An event is considered a “Public Viewing Event” if at such event broadcast coverage of the competition is made available for exhibition to, and viewing by, an audience (whether members of the general public or otherwise) in any place other than a private dwelling, including at cinemas, bars, restaurants, stadiums, open spaces, offices, construction sites, etc.

How do we host a public viewing event?

A Big Screen event can easily be combined with other programmes for instance Hospitality, a Street Festival or Performing Arts to create a good festive atmosphere, attract the public and provide the opportunity to network with people prior to a game or afterwards.

License or authorization

In the case of running a genuine Non-commercial Public Viewing Event, the Exhibitor needs not to apply to FIFA for a physical license to exhibit broadcast coverage of the Competition and a free license is automatically granted to the Exhibitor. The Exhibition is subject to the Exhibitor’s full compliance with the Fifa Regulations. Please also see FIFA Regulations Non-Commercial public viewing events for further information.

Example 2: TUG Viewing Event at Moreleta Park Dutch Reformed Church, Pta

"Every week 300 churches are planted on the continent of Africa" These were the closing words of Rev. Moss Ntlha, the General Secretary of The Evangelical Alliance of South Africa, during our National Church Sports Ministry conference held during the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup TM in South Africa.

During the conference 250 delegates representing churches across South Africa convened at Moreleta Park Dutch Reformed Church in Pretoria. The conference was presented by the South African Theological Seminary and The Ultimate Goal. The Ultimate Goal is a network of Sports Ministries, Churches and Mission Agencies partnering to present an Evangelical outreach for the 2010 FIFA World Cup ™.

Tim Tucker, AIS Africa Director coordinated the conference and the main plenary speakers were Alex Ribeiro, Executive Director of Atletas de Cristo Brazil and David Oakley, Chief Executive of AIS UK. In their sessions we looked at The Global Impact, 2010 and The Kingdom of God as well as looking at The Biblical Mandate for Sports Ministry.

Example 1:TUG Viewing Event during the FIFA Confederation Cup

Christ Church Midrand recently partnered with Ambassadors in Sport and Upward Sports to host a two part soccer festival coinciding with the Confederations Cup. Part one of the festival was a Big Screen event which we held in our main auditorium. We served up hotdogs and hot chocolate and played some futsal before hand just to get into the swing of things, and then we went upstairs to the gallery to watch the game. The 40 people who attended were treated to an absolute ripper of a game. In the end Brazil managed to squeeze out a 3-2 win over Egypt, but it was an extremely close fought encounter. The excitement of that match set the tone for our soccer clinic the next day (Youth Day).

On June 16 we had 155 primary school kids attend our soccer clinic. A major highlight of the event for us was the fact that 55 of those children were bussed in from an underprivileged school in Thembisa and got to enjoy the day free of charge thanks to generous support from our church community.
