Pietermaritzburg on the Map!!

If you are reading this and live in PMB and surrounds, and want to get involved, please contact us!

Msunduzi now has a TUG office which has embraced the vision of seeing God glorified, via people reached during this season of the FIFA Soccer World Cup, partnerships created through unity, and a firm network and activity base for future development after the World Cup. We have chosen to be known as TUG Msunduzi to identify with our new municipality.

We are encouraging all local churches to be involved, and drawing upon their resources as we undertake to co-ordinate events and training in our beautiful city. What an opportunity to bring Jesus to the centre of all the excitement and fun that the season ahead holds!

We are currently in the process of staffing an office with phone-line and internet facilities, as those currently serving on the committee are full-time employed. This will be a great help in streamlining communications and planning for what lies ahead. If you have available office space in a central location, please let us know as our current location is not quite suitable for many as it is a little out of the way.

Jaco van Heerden is the Convener of the local initiative, and he is establishing a number of portfolios for suitably experienced persons as they come on board. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to ‘sow’ into the spiritual life of our city, as we have this unique time, as a nation, hosting this splendid event.

We plan in the very near future to arrange a central meeting which would involve all the churches in PMB and surrounds with the aim to introduce the TUG project, the PMB Team and via workshop style discussions determine the needs and special interests we as a community can embark on in this time of opportunities.

Co-ordinating and administering the various activities is quite challenging , so we call on the churches of PMB and surrounds to come together in strength and partake in the various activities and outreaches, for the glory of our King.

It is indeed a honour to be in the service of our Lord and Almighty God, and to experience the heavenly blessings He bestowed on us via His Son Jesus Christ in us.

So, if you feel God is calling you, do not hesitate to enrol with us, for the days (and workers) are few, and the harvest is great.

De Doorns is setting an example!

Six years ago Solid Rock has started training leaders in the rural areas of De Doorns, as leaders started to mature the need to do something about the youth’s predicament became evident. Leaders with a love and concern for the children recognized that sport can be an effective way to reach children.

The past 5 years Solid Rock has invested in the training of sport ministry leaders in these areas. Starting with Basic Soccer Skills training, creating an Annual Soccer Tournament (5 years running) and training Life Coaches (3 years running).

During this time it became clear to them that the World Cup™ can provide an enormous opportunity to impact an area like this. In the run up to this major sport event they tested and trained certain elements of their planned and anticipated outreach. During the Beijing Olympics big screen viewing were tested alongside the Annual Tournament. They know now that a side of a truck beneath the snow cap Matroosberg can be an excellent viewing area (though cold)! They  realised  that a great number of small churches want to view such events on a small scale in their respective churches. The trained leaders represent many churches as well as  farming communities and are provide valuable access to many others in the community that might not even be involved in the sport scene.

During the Confederations Cup in 2009 successful training for Kids Games clubs were done. What impressed them most was the fact that these communities were so enthusiastice that they started running successful Kids Games Clubs all by themselves!

Because of this investment 2010 has now opened up several opportunities in other areas. Capturing the energy of 2010 and put it to work for the kingdom of God! Bredasdorp, Swellendam Mpumulanga are now planning even bigger events than that what was done in De Doorns.

The Ultimate Goal in Bloemfontein and Free State

In Bloemfontein and some surrounding towns like Sasolburg, Luckhoff, Kroonstad, Bethlehem, Petrusburg and Welkom things are getting momentum. Although there is no official Steering Team, rev. De la Harpe Le Roux (Tweetoringkerk & Towers of Hope) is the convener of various interest groups who are taking hands to focus on the  2010 soccer event.

The well known Creare Music Academy, which opererates from Our Father’s House,  will for the duration of the World Cup™ present a variety of Creative Arts at the Waterfront Mall adjacent to the Bloemfontein Soccer Stadium.

The TUG Team have succeeded, after having waited a very long time, to make contact with Mr. Trevor Jordaan, the Fifa contact person of the Mangaung Municipality. This was a blessed meeting and the TUG Team now have clear guidelines as to what are alllowed, and what not, in regards to evangelizing and outreach initiatives before and during the Cup.

The TUG Team plans to invite all people who have previously been involved in TUG training or were in any other way preparing for outreaches, to come together on May 1st  to do final preparations for the outreaches in Mangaung during the soccer event. Every interested person and church is very welcome to come and join in this great challenge God is giving us for 2010!

Willie Botha (Campus Crusade for Christ) is very involved with arrangements related to the hosting and outreach planning of several missionary outreach teams who are coming from abroad during and after the World Cup™. There is also opportunity for Sport Mission Outreach training on 23 and 24 March  (at the Protea Hotel in the city centre).

On the Social Responsibility side the TUG Team have now also linked up with the bigger Forum for Human Trafficking which was established at the end of  2009 in the Free State. Training will be available during the weekend of 28-30 May for people who want to get equiped and informed in dealing with issues related to Human Trafficking.

Please pray with the TUG Team that God will send more key role players and more believers in Mangaung, and more towns in the Free State, to get involved and take hands to unite the Body of Christ and take the Gospel out to the unsaved and lonely.
